Maeves News & Updates.
Maeve on day walk in Gougane Barra, West Cork.
A big hello to one and all.
As you can see, I have a wonderful new website. I thought it was time to offer something more, something different. Let me know what you think at maeve@walkingbootstours.com.
On this news page, I want to bring you up to date with what Walking Boots are up to and what we’re planning in the coming months – our latest tours, special offers and much, much more.I suppose I should start by telling you a little about me. Walking Boots was a nickname I was given many years ago and it’s stuck. As has my motto – Exploring the Heart & Sole of Ireland.
I went back to education in 2005 and graduated last September with a degree in Archaeology and Celtic Studies. It was amazing to get this opportunity. I found University College Cork such a welcoming place. I’d recommend it to everyone. Why did I do it? I wanted to put another feather in my cap by studying Irish archaeology and I also wanted to offer even more on my tours. You’ll see many new and exciting tours brewing here in future as a result of what I’ve learned. Stay tuned!
At the moment, I am offering guided hill walks in the south west and east of Ireland at the weekends. All of these walks are not far from Cork City. That’s because my business is now based in the wonderful capital of the south. I’ve been walking a lot, enjoying the Irish mountains in winter. Just recently, I was in the Comeragh Mountains. It was cold but as I sipped from my thermos of tea and took in the dusting of snow covering the hills and the patchwork of green fields below touched by little rainbows; I thought it was a perfect day. Email me if you too would like to enjoy the Irish hills in winter.
Beginning on the 7th of February, I will be guiding walks on Saturdays and Sundays. Saturday’s walks will be easier with more of a challenging hike on Sundays. Keep an eye on my Day Walks page to see what is coming up next.
April will see the season begin in earnest with my new tour – Yoga and Hill Walking. My great friend, Brigid Power from Waterford will join me for this short break at the fabulous Sneem Hotel in Kerry. Brigid is a qualified yoga teacher with many years of experience. She and I will combine simple yoga and meditation with spectacular hill walks in the magnificent Kerry Mountains – recharging your mind and body. We both love the outdoors and know the benefits of time spent exploring nature. And what better place to do this than Kerry?
Later in May, I will guide another new tour – the Burren in County Clare combined with the ever-popular Dingle Peninsula. We will visit some of my favourite archaeological sites in both locations.I chose to run this tour in May because this is the best time to see the fantastic selection of Alpine flowers that make the Burren a botanist’s dream.
On yet another tour, I’ll be visiting two of Ireland’s most popular destinations – the Iveragh Peninsula and the Dingle Peninsula. (See the Sole of Kerry & Dingle Peninsula tour.) Highlights will include a trip to the isolated monastic site of the Skellig Rock, a boat trip eginning the 7th of February, I will be guiding walks on Saturdays and Sundays. The emphasis will be to have easier walks on Saturday with more of a challenging hillwalk on Sunday. Keep an eye out on my Day Walks page to see what is coming up next.
Two of the most popular areas to visit in Ireland are the Iveragh Peninsula or more commonly known as the scenic drive, ‘Ring of Kerry’ and the Dingle Peninsula. The Sole of Kerry and Dingle tour will visit both these places with the highlights being a visit to the amazing monastic site of the Skellig Rocks,a boat trip across the Lakes of Killarney and a day trip to the Blasket Islands – the most westerly point in Europe.
Before I go, I’ll tell you about one more tour, my new Educational Tour that runs from August 4th to 11th. Based in the quaint village of Annascaul; this tour will immerse you in the birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other creatures that make up Irish ecology. It will feature lectures with wildlife experts. We will lead you on walks through valleys, sand dunes, lakeshores, rivers and islands as we travel together on a wonderful voyage of discovery. This is the first of its kind in Ireland so don’t miss out. Email me today to learn more about it, prosperity@walkingbootstours.com.
So there you have it – a flavour of what’s on offer this coming year with Walking Boots Tours Ireland. I’m very excited about it and I’m already looking forward to meeting you soon.
As I said, keep an eye out for my special offers. Those last-minute deals are often too good to miss.
Bye for now until the next update, Maeve
