Day 2:

Mount Brandon, or St Brendan’s Mountain, is the highest on the Dingle Peninsula.  At 952metres, it is our main challenge for the week.  Our ascent will take us along the Paternoster Lakes to just below the summit, where a short, steep climb will take us to the top.  We will continue to Brandon Peak and Gearhane, before descending to Glanshanacuirp Valley and O’Connor’s Bar in Cloghane.

Ascent: 960 m; Distance: 14km. Terrain: Gradual climb along narrow, rocky trail, steep climb to the summit.

Day 3:

The Blasket Islands are the most westerly point in Europe and were inhabited until 1953.We will take a boat from Dunquin Harbour to the Great Blasket Island.  There, we will walk through the old village and along the spine of this beautiful island to Croaghmore (292m), enjoying glorious views of the other Blasket Islands and the mainland as we walk.

Ascent: 330 m; Distance: 7km. Terrain: Mostly a beautiful grassy trail made by the islanders.

Overnight Dingle.

Day 4:

We go east to the middle of the Slieve Mish Mountains for a horseshoe walk, taking in Bartregaum and Caherconree with its stone ring fort.  This lofty fort was once home to fierce mythological battles.  It may well be where the fairies come from! The climb is steady and steep, with rewarding views to the north and south of the peninsula.

Ascent: 991 m; Distance: 12km. Terrain: Trails across rough bogland uneven, steep ascent to lakes and the summit, gradual descent.
