2009 Itinerary: 2010 to follow soon...

Day 1:  The minibus will leave Cork at 1pm, pick up at Ballincollig. We will stop off to walk a special section of the Kerry Way- from Dromore to Blackwater with Brigid. When we arrive you will be assigned your rooms and will have some free time to explore the village and area. This is a beautifully new picturesque hotel on the shores of a small inlet ovrelooking the Atlantic and Kenmare bay. A relaxing place to unwind and recharge your batteries, a real treat.

Dinner will be at 7pm. After the evening meal Brigid will give an introduction to the weekend and yoga sessions.

Overnight & evening meal.

Day 2: We will meet in the yoga room for meditation and quiet time before breakfast-a peaceful start to the day. After breakfast, Brigid will lead the group in our first  yoga session (approximately 2 hours). Suitable relaxed we will then  gather our packs for an afternoon on the hills with Maeve.

Our destination  is Gloragh Mountain - also known as Knocknagantee -  just outside Sneem. We will follow a steep, stony mountain track to the top through the wild landscape so typical of this area. We will then walk across bogland to the opposite hill and long mountian streams back to the valley we started from.

Hike duration: approx 4-5 hours. 6 miles.
Ascent: 500m
Terrain: Some track, elevation steep at times, uneven mountain ground. No trail.

Overnight at Hotel, meal not included.

We will leave to drive to Kenmare for dinner 7.00pm approximately.

Day 3: We will start  meditation before breakfast.

After breakfast, Brigid will take us through some simple yoga postures to loosen our bodies after yesterday's walk. Mid morning, Maeve will take us on a spectacular walk on Eagle Mountain, overlooking Castlecove and Caherdaniel. On route, we will visit Staigue Fort, one of Ireland's most impressive stone ringforts.

The real hike starts from Coad townland, following the Kerry Way to the windy gap and over the mountain heading west. Here, we should have superb views of the Beara Peninsula to the South and Ballinaskelligs Bay and the far off reeks to the north. We will follow the ridge towards Caherdaniel and return to our starting point via the Kerry Way.

Hike: 3-4 hours, 5 miles. Ascent: 350m.

Terrain: Grassy track on the Kerry Way,to rough uneven mountain side, to country road on return.

Meditation and quietime after breakfast.

After a hearty breakfast, we will drive west by the shores of Kenmare Bay and along the Beara Peninsula to the valley of Gleninchquin.

We will walk through the farm of Donal Corcoran. His farm is a credit to him and shows how farming is changing in Ireland to suit tourist and walkers.   We will follow one of Donals trails into the hills behind his farm. With a stunning waterfall at one end and lofty cliffs and glacial lakes at the other, this is a walk to take your breath away.  We will return to Kenmare for a cuppa and then back to Cork.

Hike: 4-5 hours, 5miles.
Ascent: approx 400m
Terrain:  initially mountain track, wet bogland,  uneven trailess mountain terrain (Packed lunch included)

Gleninchquin.It really is this green.

Time for farewell in peace.... Slán Abhaile.

Something more about Brigid Power (I.Y.A.)

Brigid has been practising yoga since 1995 and teaching since 1998 (Iyengar based trained with the Irish Yoga association and Heart Yoga with Jenny Beeken). Yoga is an ideal field for combining her interests in working with the body and mind, Indian philosophy, language and sound and her background in civil engineering and archaeology gives her a practical approach. Her own path in Yoga has been one of healing, empowerment and learning. Energising the body, finding balance and de-stressing are important elements in positive living today.

Something more about Maeve Kelly (M.L.)

I have been leading walking tours since 1995 all over Ireland. I have worked at Outdoor education centers teaching rock climbing & kayaking. Since 2001 I have been running my own business in walking tours and I love it. Taking people into the mountains, away from the hussle and bussle, seeing the fun and relaxation emerge is wonderful. Being in nature especially the magnificent Irish mountains, you can't help but feel energised and renewed.

See you soon, Maeve.
